Walter Peak High Country Farm Excursions

We'll explain traditional farming practices and the significance of the various animals. You can help feed the sheep and get close to the deer and Scottish Highland cattle. Watch the sheep dogs in action, see the shearing and maybe try your hand at spinning wool. Then stroll through the lakeside gardens to the charming Colonel's Homestead for a traditional morning or afternoon tea.

Walter Peak Farm & BBQ Lunch Excursions

bbq.jpg (6691 bytes)Combine a lake cruise and a guided farm visit with a barbecue lunch. The barbecue is freshly prepared and served to you either on the lakeside terrace or inside the Homestead. Fresh salads and crusty bread perfectly complement the food sizzling on the grill. Before or after the barbecue there is time for you to see the farm animals and to join in the farmyard walking tour.

Walter Peak Heritage Excursions

Barbeque ExcursionGain an insight into Queenstown’s unique heritage with this fascinating excursion. Highlights include a guided tour of the TSS Earnslaw with our on board historian and a visit to the Colonel’s Homestead and gardens at Walter Peak High Country Farm.

Find out about the early days as you view the photographs and memorabilia. A central Otago wine and cheese tasting, plus antipasto selection is also included. Enjoy the opportunity to explore the farmyard or relax on the lakeside terrace before cruising back across beautiful Lake Wakatipu.

Enjoy high country hospitality and a carvery style buffet, featuring the best of New Zealand meats and seafood, along with fresh vegetables and garden salads. You may well find the house dessert specialities hard to resist!
An entertaining after dinner show provides a glimpse into farming life. On your return cruise to Queenstown, relax with a drink from the bar or join a lively sing-along.

Walter Peak Horse Trek Excursions

horsetrek.jpg (5672 bytes)At Walter Peak High Country Farm disembark from the steamship TSS Earnslaw and join a guided horse trek. Our experienced guides will take you across rolling farm terraces to an outlook with spectacular views of the Wakatipu scenery. Your horse trek takes around 40 minutes and is followed by morning or afternoon tea. The duration of the excursion is 3hrs 35mins.

  • Safety helmets and wet weather clothing are provided for the treks 
  • Suitable for inexperienced riders (40 mins trek)
  • Suitable for children 8 years and over (40 mins trek)
  • Optional: BBQ can be added to this package (additional charge).
  • Please note: a weight restriction of 100kg per rider may apply.
