Day 1: Auckland - Dunedin
Fly to Dunedin where you will be met and transferred
to your accommodation, free time for optional activities - add an experience. Stay
1 night in Dunedin.
Day 2:
Dunedin - Te Anau
This morning is free for optional sightseeing. Now
it's the rich farming country of South Otago and Southland as we travel to Balclutha
and turn west to Gore. The countryside becomes drier as you reach Lumsden, Mossburn
and then your first glimpse of Fiordland. Stay 1 night in Te Anau.
Day 3:
Te Anau - Milford Sound - Queenstown
As you travel through the Fiordland National Park
you will pass the Mirror Lakes, the Chasm, the Homer Tunnel and the Cleddau Chasm.
A cruise on Milford Sound beneath lofty Mitre Peak, waterfalls and out to the mouth
of the Tasman Sea is included. Then you climb out of Milford Sound to Te Anau and
across country to the alpine playground of Queenstown. Stay 2 nights in Queenstown.
Day 4:
At Queenstown
Today is at your leisure in this fabulous alpine
resort. We have included the Skyline gondola in your tour. There are dozens of optional
activities as well, from thrilling jet boat rides to leisurely lake cruises, 4WD
safaris, bungy jumping.
Day 5:
Queenstown - Glaciers
Travel to Cromwell and on through the Southern Lakes
district to Haast Pass. Travel north, through dense rain forest broken by rugged
coastal vistas, towards the glaciers. Stay 2 nights at Franz Josef or Fox Glacier.
Day 6:
At Glaciers
A whole day is available for optional excursions
on the Glacier, for bush walks or simply to soak up the beauty of snow-capped mountains
contrasting with the deep greens of the native bush - add an experience.
Day 7:
Glaciers - Greymouth - Christchurch - Auckland
Coach north to Greymouth, then board the TranzAlpine
train to traverse the Southern Alps. On arrival in Christchurch you are met and
transferred to the airport for your evening flight to Auckland.
Day 8:
Christchurch - Auckland
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Auckland.
