This brief 6 day tour of New Zealand allows you to see the New Zealand landmarks
made famous by the Lord of The Rings Trilogy.
Day
1: Auckland – Waitomo – Rotorua
Travel south through lush Waikato farmland, past
Hamilton, to Waitomo Caves for a boat ride under a galaxy of glow-worms. Continue
east to Rotorua, steeped in Maori culture and history. We recommend you attend a
Maori hangi (feast) and concert tonight. Overnight at Rotorua.
Day 2: At Rotorua (Hobbiton)
This morning – see roaring geysers and
boiling mud pools at the thermal area, tame trout at the springs and performing
sheep and dogs at the Agrodome. This afternoon you will be driven through the rolling
countryside of South Waikato to visit the set of ‘Hobbiton’.
Day 3: Rotorua – Queenstown (Flight
not included)
You will be transferred to Rotorua to met
your flight to Queenstown (ask your consultant to book an appropriate flight). If
the weather is favourable ask for seats that will allow you to view the central
plateau volcanoes (Mt Doom) as you fly south above the volcanic plateau. On arrival
in Queenstown you will be taken to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to enjoy
the activities of this alpine resort, from thrilling jet boat rides to leisurely
lake cruises, 4WD safaris and bungy jumping. Stay 3 nights in Queenstown.
Day 4: Queenstown – Milford Sound -
Queenstown
An early start around the southern shores
of Lake Wakatipu to Lake Te Anau, then into Fiordland National Park. Pass through
pristine beech forests and the Homer Tunnel to view the majesty of Mitre Peak and
Bowen Falls aboard a cruise on the Sound. Climb out of Milford Sound to return to
Queenstown by evening.
Days 5: At Queenstown
This morning you will travel by 4WD vehicle
to many of the sites used for the filming of"Lord of the Rings’ these include: Lothlorien,
Isengard, Ithilien Camp Amon Hen. Afternoon at leisure or at an extra cost you can
add an afternoon tour including: Ford of Bruinen, Misty Mountains, Pillars of the
Kings, Road to Mordor.
Day 6: Queenstown – Mt Cook – Christchurch
Travel north through the Lindis Pass to
the McKenzie Country. Here you will see the spectacular country used to portray
the Pelennor Fields, Misty Mountains, and the foothills of the White Mountains.
Continue to Mt Cook where you can enjoy an optional lunch at the Hermitage or perhaps
a ski plane flight. Continue north through Burkes Pass, Fairlie and Geraldine to
Christchurch.
